Delaware Valley Science Council 71st Annual Competition Announced – Exams to be held May 12th, 2018 for High School Juniors

The Delaware Valley Science Council 71st Annual Science Competition for students graduating in 2019 begins on May 12th, 2018 with examinations at 9:00 am in Mendel Hall on the campus of Villanova University. A special testing session will be arranged only for students who cannot attend on Saturday due to religious or approved school event reasons.

Each participating school may send up to four junior-year students (graduating in 2019) who have never participated in our competition. The students must complete two examinations selecting from mathematics, biology, chemistry or physics. Students should arrive between 8:45 and 9:00 a.m. for the exams. The exams are each one hour in length. Students will be dismissed at approximately 11:30 a.m.

A school registration form is available from our registration website here . Phone and mail registrations are not accepted. An email acknowledgement will be sent promptly. Once you nominate (up to four) students, please direct them to the student registration site here to complete the registration process.

The Council recognizes that many area schools feel they do not have a sufficiently robust and challenging science curriculum in order to compete, and is planning to expand awards to be inclusive of those schools that have high participation in “free and reduced lunches” programs. Please contact us at info@delawarevalleysciencecouncil.org to inquire about this change.

Both these links are also available at the DVSC website: http://delawarevalleysciencecouncil.org.

A downloadable poster for announcing this year’s exams is available here.

NAMED FINALISTS MUST BE WILLING TO ATTEND PERSONAL INTERVIEWS TO BE SCHEDULED IN SEPTEMBER 2018 (SENIOR YEAR). EACH STUDENT MUST ALSO CONSENT TO THE USE OF HIS NAME, HOME TOWN, AND HIGH SCHOOL NAME IN PRESS INFORMATION RELEASED BY THE DELAWARE VALLEY SCIENCE COUNCIL.

Further information about the exam day will be forwarded by email to the coordinator designated by you on the completed registration form. We welcome your school’s participation and any suggestions you may have which could enable Council to be more efficient in our communications or otherwise improve our program.
