Become a volunteer with DVSC
The Delaware Valley Science Council is looking for a few good role models! Consider becoming a volunteer with DVSC to promote and encourage academically talented students to pursue careers in science and mathematics. Each year the DVSC recognizes academically talented, well-rounded, community-spirited high school students through our awards program.
To accomplish our mission, we need your help. Since its inception in 1946, the DVSC has been an all-volunteer organization and depends on the participation of many individuals throughout the year for the success of our programs. There are many ways that you can become involved, so please consider becoming a volunteer with DVSC.
Each year nearly 300 high schools from Delaware, Southeastern Pennsylvania and Southern New Jersey are invited to send up to three students to participate in the DVSC’s programs. The annual program includes completion and submission of an application/questionnaire, with these evaluated and scored, and finalists invited to be interviewed later, so volunteers are needed to read applications and to serve as judges during the interviews. Professionals from the fields of education, science and engineering are needed to join in these activities and to share their educational and career experiences with students participating in our programs. For many of these students, this provides their first opportunity to interact with a professional mathematician, engineer, or scientist.
